Creativity: Hitting the Reset Button

Posted: 07 Aug 2008

It has been a very long time since my last post. Consequently it has also been awhile since I have worked on some of the creative projects that have been hanging in the whims for months now. Life certainly does happen sometimes and it does get in the way of things like creativity. The "go go go" culture most of us are a part of makes it hard to slow down, stop, and smell the roses. I guess making this post is at least acknowledgment of the need to dive back into creativity and maybe even the first step to recovery. "For the Living" remains at a stand still for the time being as I look to build up my editing suite. It is a project (FTL) that is very near and dear to me as well as the many people involved. I will get there one day... Though January was the goal, I cannot promise myself it will get there by then. "The Christmas Cookies" may remain just one of the oddest trailers I have ever made and maybe nothing more. Writing however is always there, pounding at the walls of procrastination and begging me to return... It is sad that a blog is all have have to show for this urge at this time... But something is better than nothing I suppose. Thanks for reading and checking up!

Apple & Cheese Festival

Pat and I are going to be on our way to Canton in a couple weeks for the Apple & Cheese festival in Canton, PA. It's a Big-to-do there and we are excited to go and be a part of it. Ken of "For the Living" is going to be making his homemade apple butter with his wife. Word on the streets is that he sells out every year... Can't wait to get my hands on a piping hot jar! We finally have a trailer cut for "For the Living" too. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

For The Living in Gestation

As an artist, it always eats away when creativty is not flowing freely and the last completed project is further in the past than hoped for. At the moment, that is where I stand, in limbo of a few brewing projects but at the helm of one that is progressing at a pace I am comfortable with. Fellow filmmaker and Temple Alumni, Pan Ganley and I are in the midst of our second collaborative production and my first independent documentary. This production, tentatively titled, "For the Living," tells the behind-the-scenes story of a privately owned, Pennsylvania funeral home. It follows a local funeral director as he explains the artistry and the vocation of being a mortician [See Directing].

We are shooting for a Early 2008 release of this Feature documentary. However, I've learned not to place rigid deadlines on personal projects, but in this case I am fairly confident with the goal... And what's life without the pursuit of goals?

This film is shaping up, not only to be an engaging and educational story, but one that is also very therapeutic on many levels. My hope is that these feelings will come through in the final film and you can all share in them with us.

The Unveiling

It's finally here and how it should be! If you've been here before, you may remember this website as the "Willy Will" website a couple years back. After that, it has been "coming soon" ever since (Too long actually). This was because all efforts went into UmbilicalPictures.com, my production company website. Here you will find my personal and professional portfolio works. And as always, with the launch of any big changes made with my sites, I couldn't go without praising Mike Finnegan, my designer and very good friend since the inception of both websites.

Have a look around! Email me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions and stop back soon. I hope to make updates often and keep up on my blog with news on my projects.
